This is not a tree

Awareness campaign

The concept behind this pamphlet is to plant the idea of an awareness of environmental impact in the public’s mind. With the rise of environmental concern, well-intentioned “eco-friendly” designs have become, in a sense, trendy and ubiquitous to the point that they often lose their impact. We know that plastic is bad and compostable is good, but before we can save the world by passing up a straw, we have to first change our mentality toward everyday materials we encounter. Even a pamphlet is a material that has a lifespan beyond the bin you throw it in. A spin off Rene Magritte’s “this is not a pipe” motif, the “this is not a tree” campaign aims solely to bring consciousness to the materials we use.

“This is the image of a tree. What you’re holding was a real one. You can’t save the tree that made this paper.”

“But you can save the next one. Save a tree. Stop picking up pamphlets.”

“Instead of disposing of this piece of paper, tear off the bottom to use it again. Write a letter, draw a picture, do your homework. Be mindful of what you use.”
